Forehead Lift

A forehead lift is most commonly performed to minimize the visible effects of ageing. Due to ageing process the forehead's skin looses elasticity and tautness. Frown lines and sagging eyebrows let us look tired, sad or angry. A forehead lift can help us to a more aesthetic appearance.

Surgery can also help people with pronounced furrows and frown lines due to stress or muscle activity. Patients with heredity dispositions, such as heavy brows or furrowed lines above the nose can achieve a more awake appearance.

Lifting is often performed in conjunction with a facelift or an eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to provide a smoother overall look to the face and to remove excess skin in the upper eyelids.

The classic forehead lift

In a classical forehead lift incision follows a headphone-like pattern. It is usually made behind the hairline so that the scar won't be visible. In exceptional cases, such as baldness or a receding hairline, surgeon has to modify incision lines.

Following skin is carefully lifted, underlying tissue is removed and muscles are flattened. Incision is then closed with stitches or clips and finally you get a supportive bandage around your head.

Alternatively a temporal lift can be performed. Here incisions are placed in the scalp and temples. Through these incisions forehead's skin can be lifted and excess skin can be removed. The resulting scars are nearly invisible.

The endoscopic forehead lift

This kind of lifting is optimal for younger patients. Surgeon will make a few short scalp incisions. Following he inserts an endoscope, a flexible tube with a speculum, through one of the incisions. Using another instrument inserted through a different incision, he lifts the forehead's skin and flattens or removes muscles and underlying tissues.

Finally scalp incisions will be closed with stitches or clips.

Normally a forehead lift is performed under local anaesthesia but in exceptional cases surgeons prefer to use general anaesthesia.

Complications are rare and usually minor. Some possible effects are temporary numbness, itching, swelling, broad scars and hair loss along the incision line. To enhance healing process, follow your surgeons instructions.

Before you can get an idea of the surgery's result you have to wait until healing process is completed. Most patients are pleased with their new look, no matter which surgical method was used. As time passes, you may want to repeat it.
