Veneers are labially glued ceramic layers made in laboratories. With veneers a cosmetic improvement of dead teeth or teeth that are stained, whether the stains have existed from birth on, or happened later in life. Extremely thin ceramic layers are glued onto the prior sanded teeth with a special technique.

Usual crown construction techniques involve an unwanted loss of tooth substance up to 1.5 millimetres, with veneers only 0.5 millimetres.
